Social Distancing and Ebo EbikEs .. a glass half full !
Ebo E-BikEs; The Glass Half Full and the UpSide of Social Distancing…Believe it or not, our glass is always half full. Even now.
CoronaVirus is not a thing we should take lightly, and this first phase ( ie Level 4) is only the beginning of what is a quantum “Way of Life Change” for all of us. Here we explore an UpSide… Ebo- EbikEs.
Whether you’ve been thinking about buying an electric bike or not, now may be the best time to go that way… for a lot of good reasons.
COVID-19 has completely upended how we get around on a daily basis. You’re most likely doing the right thing; staying at home or sheltering in place, so you don’t have too far to travel to run errands or get some fresh air. Walking is fine — for a while. Eventually, there’s going to be diminishing returns, especially as you wear out all of your available routes. You could haul out your old bike for a ride — and you should — but why not go electric? There are so many upsides , and the advantages will keep on giving for all the good years to come.
Let’s look at all of the reasons as to why e-bikes are really the best mode of transportation for our new pandemic way of life , And why this is a very good time to get one for yourself
Social Distancing: Experts advise that you stay at least six feet away from other people to minimize the spread of infection. It’s a blunt response to the immediate crisis that will last weeks, likely months, and possibly even longer if there’s a resurgence before a vaccine can be found.
CYCLING IS AN EXCELLENT WAY TO ADHERE TO SOCIAL DISTANCING GUIDELINES — AS LONG AS YOU’RE RIDING ALONE. If you’re riding with someone “inside your bubble” , still stay apart. Just a precaution. Group riding is a lot of fun, but Just Don’t . Even if you’re not a bike rider per se, Group Rides is for later, when we’re vaccinated, so leave the lycra at home. ( My name is Alan, and I’m a recovering MAMIL,. Even I’ve learned the pure joy of an old pair of cargo-shorts and chilled out favourite T-shirt. Tbh I’m not sure I’m ever going back to my flashy old pro-look cycing kit )
So Why An E-bikE , particularly?...
The basic answer is that we humans love “Joy”, and Ease. ( Capital J & E intended )
An e-bike is about Joy, and Eas. E-bikEs, with their varying levels of assist are the perfect way to get outside, feel the breeze on your skin, watch the world float by, and still get that Endorphin boost in your brain without expending too much effort. You can ride with anything from cruising along on your own steam on the flats, to a little assistance, to climbing hills like a Tour de France pro ( quite literally), meanwhile not blowing a foofoo valve, or even getting out of breath. Just the Joy, with none of the struggle and sweat.
An e-bike also lets you ride farther to escape the tedium of that repeated walk, and in the future, your horizons are opened like no other mode of travel ever invented.
So Why An Ebo E-bikE?... Ebo FoldiE bikEs are in top end quality-wise, without the $5k price-tag ( 2 year Warranty says it all, with Lifetime Warrnty of frame). Ebo focuses on understated style , versatility and transportability. However, right now, you cant take your bike in your car to a place of JoyWorship. Right now , during LockDown, this is all about local Joy, not adventures. You get both actually, but it’s the Joy that is the gold bar right now.
Adventures are the long term bonus. New Zealand has an incredible network of cycle-trails and more are being built all the time. So use your trails or quiet streets as a local now, and when this all Covid shenanigans clears, you won’t believe the options and fun and the Joy with Ease, that’s out there to put a buzz into your life
Distance Makes the Heart Grow Fonder; Ebo E-bikEs will travel at least 30 miles (50 kilometers), pedal assisted ( flat to mild undulating) with 55-plus miles (9 0-plus kilometers) possible in th case off the SuperTOurer, when fitted with bigger batteries nd when dialed back to a super-efficient assisted polevel. It’s very unlikely that with such range option that the battery will die, except where large hills are encountered, which must be considered. I’ve done over 100km on my SuperTOurer without a recharge, and many UpRated Ezi rides by Ebo owners have exceeded the theoretical 55km maximum range, simply by stopping for a bite at a café, and plugging the bike into a socket . All good fun ( though not for now , with Social Distancing being the rule)
NOTE; Do NOT believe the “Self Charging While You Ride” claims being made around the traps… it’s a gimmick that even the Big Brands avoid due to it’s almost total ineffectiveness, and endangerment to electronics in the long term. Unless the bike is $1000+ more expensive ( because that’s what a genuine magneto braking system costs) than comparable bikes, you know this dongle is of very minor assistance ( 6% , if you’re lucky) and may be a lot of drama long term. (at Ebo we don’t do gimmicks, we just invest in higher capacity, better batteries and efficiency-driven software. )
Owned, not shared; THIS IS IMPORTANT: The shared scooter and bike startups WERE very cool, but sadly Covid19 has put a hole in all that as ridership fizzles due to the fact these things are probably the ultimate virus vector. Infectious disease experts are all saying “don’t do share-mode transport” , as studies show the virus hanging about on surfaces like plastic and steel for many hours, days even. The experts are unanimous about Covid19 being socially transmitted via surfaces, so owning your own e-bike or scooter is advisable.. and we tend to agree.
Car traffic is plummeting: This is both a short-term/lockdown imperative, and a long term trend. People are rightly staying at home and avoiding unnecessary travel, now, so our streets have never been more inviting for cyclists. Road traffic is down 80 percent in the NZ, but there’s a long term paradigm in play here; Recreational and commuter usages in personal vehicle travel are changing rapidly, and E-bikes are largely responsible… gain we get back to the Joy factor. (And economics. We’ll get to that later 😊).
In the longer term , for cyclists of any description , the time has never been better…. so why not take advantage of this new liberated culture and buy an e-bike.?
An Upside to Climate Change!... The weather is improving: In case you hadn’t noticed, New Zealand’s weather is now 3 seasons of outdoor fun, not just for summer. Springtime and Autumn are the New Summer. Even NZ winter for the most part, is a buzz to be out in, on the frequent fine days.
So… What better excuse do you need to get off your chuff and onto nice soft gel-foam composite, Ebo saddle for a ride? Regular bikes are motivating in their own right, but e-bikes are the perfect all-weather-but-especially-fine-day vehicles, allowing you to cruise out, even with picnic gear over long distances without breaking a sweat (unless you want to).
