The Folding eBike: The fair and square truth behind its design

We are laying bare the truth behind the Folding Bike Design.

We humbly swear on our cycling helmets, we weren’t the first to come up with the foldable bike. The genius was Harry Bickerton, a British engineer. He started his career with an apprenticeship at Rolls Royce in 1938. After making his mark in aerospace engineering and aircraft engine design till the late 1960s, he produced the first folding bike in 1971. His folding hinge invention continues to inspire the design of folding bikes today. Like Royal Enfield, Bickerton’s folding bikes too were used on the frontlines of World War II.  Harry Bickerton's bicycle design was the one that inspired the design of the Brompton Bicycle.

The original folding bike design.

Since then, numerous bicycle designers and manufacturers have picked up the trail and bettered the design, ergo, and performance of the folding bike. Including us folks at EBO. Featured above is Andrew Ritchie with the original folding e-bike design which is what the EBO is based on.

At the very start of our business, we vowed ourselves to a ‘No Compromise on Quality’ policy. This policy has been our True North since Day 0 of our ride. Every single one of our products features highly scrutinised components that have been tested time and again for robustness and durability. For starters, we use aviation-grade alloys and welding to construct our products. Our genuinely heavy-duty Bafang 350W motors deliver the maximum legal power, and we never settled for less-powered motors to cut costs. As an ebo owner, you will experience our commitment to quality in something as important as the brakes, to something as minute as the bearings. And we haven’t even begun talking about our after-sales service.

So whether you want to beat the rush hour, or overcome a hill’s inclines or the headwinds - there’s an ebo FoldiE that’s just right for you.

All you need to do is call EBO on +64 21 980 511. Or walk into our store at 27 College Hill, Freemans Bay, Auckland to get a first-hand experience of the ebo FoldiE. Yes, we are a proud New Zealand ebike co.
