Our Roots
EBO evolved out of a humorous experience during the Tour De France in 2013.
From a racing history back in the dark ages, I got the sport/touring bug in my mid 50’s.
Consequently, I went to ride the Tour De France course to watch this mighty event, day by day, just a bike with a light backpack and a mate, and some wondrous B&B’s.
We were climbing the mighty Col du Glandon (as a spectator tourer, before the race came through) with the hundreds of other MAMILS (Middle Aged men in Lycra) mad enough to do so…only to be passed by a group of holiday Brits, definitely not of the MAMIL variety. They were on e-bikes, which in those days were a real rarity. I was lightning fit, and honed down to sinew and bone and they weren’t…but I couldn’t stay with them, while they laughed and chatted!
I finally caught up to them near the top (2,200m) where they were enjoying tea and scones LOL. You’ve got to love Blighty. I borrowed one of their bikes and rode to the top and back. Effortlessly. Needless to say, I saw the future right there. The project was born.
I have many bikes in my personal collection, but literally now live on my EBO SuperTourer prototype.
I toured Europe with my EBO SuperTourer in 2017 to test it in the real world. It didn’t miss a beat, and it’s still my daily ride. It’s now beaten and battered from cobbles, gravel trails, rain and hail, and general daily use; but it’s still going strong.
